Beginner's Mind Suzuki

In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few. ~Shunryu Suzuki

This quote is one that I come back to again and again. Being a beginner is a really tough thing for me. It’s something I’ve struggled against and avoided for much of my life.

I now know that we are all beginners. I keep learning that by embracing my beginner’s mind I take the first step. My beginner’s mind keeps me open to failure and learning and experimenting and moving forward.

Today I am a beginner. And tomorrow too.

I can definitely relate to that. It’s an uncomfortable place to be, but whole new worlds open up when we embrace that and just go with it. I need almost hourly reminders of that right now. There’s no shame in ignorance.

Definitely no shame in not knowing all the answers (a small shift on ignorance, which has some negative connotations). The image I made with this quote will be hanging somewhere prominent. I need to see it, and remember.
