We don’t need help Remembering

Eleven years ago…

Waiting for my dad to come home from the city covered in ash.

Feeling lost and confused.

Eleven years ago…

I was such a different person.

Slowly ending a long relationship.

{I think we even broke up (again) that night.}

First week of Graduate School, optimistic and wide eyed.

Future uncertain and unscripted.

Eleven years ago…

Hoping for something to believe in.

Wanting to stop feeling so alone.

Holding on and letting go.

Opening myself to not knowing.

We don’t need help remembering. How could anyone ever forget?

Today I’m focusing on all the love that surrounds me. All the beauty that is here in spite of and perhaps because of past pains.
