Staying Present; An evening walk

Moon 1

Last night, after the kids were in bed, I did something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.

I went for a walk, by myself, with the intention of getting some exercise and clearing my head.

Here in Ohio we are blessed with gloriously long days in the summer, and the extended sunlight has already started. Last night the official sunset completion time was 8:44pm.

The walk was truly awesome.

I watched the new moon grow brighter and brighter with a planet (Mars?) shining near by.

I listened to Erin Goodman’s newest Behind the Blog podcast (and this one is sooooo good. I dare say best yet. You must go listen!).

I took in all the beauty of the magic hour.

Life has gotten so busy. In glorious ways, yes. But, just like you, when my plate gets full some things fall right off.

My exercise routine fell off with a big thud several months ago. Despite the fact that I wrote this article for Sparrow.

A year ago I ran a half marathon. Now I’d be surprised if I could run 2 miles.

But last night I walked. And I even felt the itch to run.

I have the tendency to get all big and bold when I do something I enjoy.

“I am going to go for a walk or run every night from now on!”

I’m pushing those thoughts away. I’m just going to focus on one thing at a time, be in the moment, enjoy the Doing and resist the big (often unattainable) goal setting. For me it’s about right now.

This morning I did some yoga, focusing on strengthening my core and back, with Yo Gabba Gabba and serenading me, along with some dog licks while in downward dog (perfect timing, no?).

Maybe I’ll go for another walk tonight. Maybe it will be tomorrow night. When it happens I’ll be there, in the present, enjoying the evening sky.
