Simple Gratitude

The Moon Window

The Moon Window by Derek Gavey

Every night when I turn out my bedside light, my heart fills with gratitude. Most nights the first expression of gratitude comes in the form of “I’m so happy to be going to sleep. I’m so grateful for my bed, and my pillows, and these warm covers.”

From there, with no effort at all, my gratitude expands, to my home, my family, good health and prosperity. I feel my gratitude fill me up. I feel it radiate out into the world.

Some people have a formal gratitude practice, diligently writing down in a gratitude journal all that they are thankful for. I’ve even done that. For a while. But the practice doesn’t last, at least for me.

My simple gratitude practice fits me just right. In fact, I can’t help but do it, every single night. My perfect way to end the day.

  1. Ahhh, yes. Thanks for the reminder. I never loved that comfy bed so much as I do now with 5 kids. I love the ending to a fun and productive day — so many things to be grateful for!

Right now the north star is easily visible from my pillow late at night. Simply love it.
