self knowledge, why is self knowledge important, why do i need to know my true self, self knowledge and self improvement

Self knowledge is the beginning of self improvement.

~Spanish Proverb

I work with a lot of women through my coaching and e-courses who want to make a change in their lives.

Sometimes it is a small change, like getting more rest, organizing their time more effectively or beginning a creative practice they’ve been longing for.

Other times the changes are big, like launching a new career, deciding whether it is time to start a family or finally starting and eventually finishing the novel they’ve dreamed about writing.

No matter the change a woman desires, our work together always begins in the same spot — improving her understanding of herself.

It’s hard work, to strip away all the influences that color our inner voice.

It takes getting quiet and listening to what You want, not what others — parents, friends, husbands, children, society — think you should want.

Ultimately the change we all desire is fulfillment — to feel like we are living the life we were born to live. We want happiness, to feel our heart swell and our spirit soar.

Until you take the time to really understand yourself and your truest desires, any change will be fleeting or simply unfulfilling. You must understand yourself first.

To take the quote about a tiny step further, with self knowledge comes truly meaningful and fulfilling self improvement.
