Weekly Inspiration 3

August 16, 2011 2 Comments

I’m posting this on Tuesday instead of Monday this week. Yesterday was a very full day. I’m squeezing out every last bit of summer freedom with my children.

Here is my inspiration for the week:

Start Before You're Ready....Test Often and Learn Fast

I’ve been posting Monday Inspiration regularly and want to take some time to explain my thoughts behind the posts, the exercise behind the images.

At the beginning of every week I look through some of the books that have inspired me. I browse through the pages, reading passages I’ve underlined and pages I’ve dogged-eared, looking for words and ideas that speak to me. When I find the words (or perhaps they find me) I move to my journal. I write out the words and then play with the page. I decorate, doodle, color, and embellish in any way I wish. I leave the page open all day, going back to add to it when I have a chance. It becomes a day long creative exercise, a fun little art project to start my week.

I really love my Monday Inspiration exercise. It honestly started as a creative way to share some quotes I like with you, my readers. But it has evolved into much more than that. I love that I have a guarentee of some creative time on Mondays, even if it comes in small bursts scattered throughout the day. The words also act as a guide for the week, a mantra that I repeat to myself, to guide me through whatever I’m facing.

This week, it’s “Start Before You’re Ready” and “Test Often….Learn Fast”, inspired by my work with Stacey Curnow. I’m starting so many new things: this space, Sparrow Magazine, putting together personal coaching services, and this weekend I’m attending a blogging conference. None of it is easy. Honestly, I’m terrified a lot of the time. But not so scared that I’m going to hold myself back. This week I remind myself that everyone starts before they’re completely ready. That’s how all the learning can happen. And by testing often I will learn even more. I can’t fix and improve anything if I don’t first put it out into the world.

I hope that you find inspiration in the words I’ve chosen for the week. Is there anything that you want to start, but have been putting off? anything you’ve been wanting to try, but haven’t yet? I’d love to hear about it!

I love this idea! I’ve been reading some inspiring books but never seem to get the quotes I like into my journal fast enough. Perhaps I should join you in this Monday inspiration. 🙂

I would love for you to join me with Monday inspiration. I obviously didn’t get to it this week. It’s been busy getting everything ready for Sparrow’s release next week. But I’ll be back at it on Monday. I’d love for you to leave the link to your blog if you join in!
