Flora Bowley on The Fulfilling Life

July 2, 2013 4 Comments

I received Flora Bowley’s book Brave Intuitive Painting for Christmas, along with an introductory supply of acrylic paints, canvas board, and paint brushes. I felt this calling coming from deep inside, that if I took some time to paint from a place of intuition it would help open up some things that are stuck inside of me.

The moment I held her book in my hands I knew that I would invite her onto The Fulfilling Life. Today I’m so happy to share this dream realized.

Flora Bowley is an internationally celebrated painter, teacher, author, and inspirationalist.  Her vibrant paintings can be found in numerous galleries, in public spaces, on album covers and on a variety of unique licensed products found around the world.  Flora combines eighteen years of professional painting experience with her background as a yoga instructor, massage therapist and lifelong joy seeker to infuse her teaching and painting style with a deep connection to body, mind, and spirit.  Flora’s intuitive and transformational approach to painting (and living) has inspired thousands of people to “let go, be bold and unfold” as they step fearlessly into the creative process. Flora spends her time painting, teaching workshops around the world, running online courses, giving thanks and living among a vibrant community of artists in Portland, OR.  To see Flora’s art, read her blog and find out more about her book, online courses and workshops, please visit www.braveintuitiveyou.com.

Listening, surrender and trust are all elements of Flora Bowley’s path towards fulfillment. They are also essential pieces of her painting process. I absolutely loved how Flora’s life is so beautifully reflected in her painting, and vice versa.

Flora is a wonderful example of how when you listen to, and follow, your desires, so many things in your life can fall serendipitously into place.

“A key part of finding fulfillment is acknowledging what truly brings you alive.” ~Flora Bowley

What are the things that truly bring you alive?

My own list includes yoga, painting, going for an early morning walk, being in nature, and seeing beauty.

This week, find a way to bring those things into your life, even if only in a small way. Perhaps it’s a short 10 minutes yoga practice or stopping in the gallery whose windows you’ve gazed longingly into. Perhaps starting your day with some quiet cleansing breathes or taking paper and pencil and sketching an object in your home. It could also be lacing up your shoes and walking around the block or dusting off your guitar and playing some chords.

Whatever brings you joy and makes you feel alive, create space for it. You never know what might open up for you as a result.
