The Fulfilling Life :: Erin Goodman

March 7, 2013 2 Comments

It is no small accident that my guest on The Fulfilling Life today is a woman who helped me take big steps towards fulfillment in my own life.

I’m not sure Erin even knows the full story of how I came to know her and her work.

I came across Erin’s blog years ago. It was a time that I read a lot of mama blogs, most of them about natural parenting with lost of cloth diapering, homemade everything and moms who seemed to be doing sooooo much with nothing but pure smiles on their faces.

Those moms were nothing like me. I struggled through my days with my children, felt overwhelmed and like I fell very short of the unrealistic ideal I constructed for myself. But I wanted to be like them so much it hurt.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but reading all those “perfect mama” blogs actually made me feel worse about myself.

Then I came upon Erin’s blog. For the first time a woman was sharing that she felt stressed out, frazzled and unsure of herself as a mom. I was shocked. And a little bit in love. Along with the very real picture she provided of her mothering, she also shared a wisdom that inspired me and made me feel more confident about mothering in the way that is right for me and my family.

I’m a faithful reader of Erin’s blog and now am so grateful to call her a colleague and friend.

In the early stages of dreaming up this interview series I knew that Erin would be an amazing person to talk with, and boy was I right. Erin infused the calm of an amazing yoga teacher and the peace of her ministry work into our conversation. She is an incredible teacher and I know that you will take away so much from the video.

Enjoy getting to know Erin as we talk about what it means to live a fulfilled life!

Erin brings mindfulness to everything she touches. I absolutely love that as she thought about the questions I posed in these interviews she discussed them with her children. This is something Erin is so good at — looking to everything and everyone in her life as a piece of her own fulfillment, and capable of seeking their own fulfillment.

Erin brings yoga off the mat and into her life through her practices.

Erin sums up fulfillment so well by looking at what fulfillment is not.

“If I won the lottery tomorrow and all my physical needs were met I would not necessarily be fulfilled.”

Take a moment to think about that. If all your basic needs, and then some, were met. If you won the lottery, would you feel fulfilled? What would still be missing?

Those missing pieces are a clue to your own fulfillment. What are you pieces of fulfillment?
