CFC Day 1 – Review

November 14, 2011 4 Comments

I have to admit that I’m feeling a bit torn about writing this post on my first day of the Clean Food Challenge. I feel like I should be all enthusiastic, say that I’m feeling fantastic, that eating clean is the best thing ever. The truth? I’m kind of wondering why I’m doing this in the first place. Today was…not so great.

The day started fine. I felt fine with much less caffeine. My breakfast of steel cut oats is what I usually eat even when not doing the CFC, so nothing was all that different. Lunch was good too. I had 2 rice cakes with avocado and tomato, grapes, and cashews. Totally delicious. Things turned in the late afternoon when the cheese cravings set in.

My plan for dinner was to make Buddha Bowls. This meal of quickly stir fried broccoli, carrots, garlic, garbanzo beans, spinach, and green onion served over rice is usually super tasty. Tonight I felt unsatisfied and still hungry after finishing the huge mound of vegetables, beans, and rice.

For “dessert” I had 2 rice cakes with peanut butter and strawberry fruit spread. While I’m no longer hungry, I have a nagging headache and my energy is super low.

So, how am I feeling about continuing with the Clean Food Challenge after a rough end to the first day? I’m actually feeling good. Because here’s what I know about doing the Clean Food Challenge. It gets easier after the first day. The fact that I’m not feeling my best tells me that I really need this, to clean out my system, that I’d been eating too much sugar, too much dairy, too much caffeine.

Day 1 is over, and for that I’m relieved. How’d it go for you?

For my first day, I had:
    -a banana
    -three servings of lentil soup
-drained my water bottle 3 times. (about 76 oz)

Haven’t had much of an appetite since I’m sick, but am feeling much better. I feel like this is the last day of my cold. I don’t have much sinus congestion, it didn’t go into my lungs at all. My energy level is better today. I know the absence of dairy is helping me fight off this cold immensely.

Working from home, I kicked my caffeine addiction a long time ago. Just being able to sleep when I felt tired made that OK. So with cutting out bad foods, my energy level is increasing already.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better Jacki. I can’t help but wonder if the clean eating is helping you kick the cold a little faster. Hmmm.

What can I say about my first day…Hand me the coffee ;o) I am really missing my coffee..did I say that already .

I hear you Imene. I’m allowing myself one cup of coffee/day. This morning I allowed myself a little warm up on the one cup, so I suppose that is technically 1 1/2 cups. I figure it’s either a little coffee or pain killers for the headache that I’ll get. It’s tough though because I had let myself get up to 3 or even 4 cups in the morning, and then was having a Chai Tea or other caffeinated tea in the afternoon. I think the lack of afternoon caffeine was a big part of my headache last night. Here’s to hoping today is better. Drinking lots of water definitely helps. Sometimes warm water with a little lemon juice is good too.
